The Oddest Request

The 59-year-old gynecologist of a former student of mine recently emailed me and wants me to be his tutor in Anglo-Saxon.

Huh.

I'm not sure how I feel about my name and profession coming up during...that kind of interaction. How uncomfortable...

Too funny! Yes, one immediately has an odd picture of that particular annual exam.

Gynecologists tend to avoid those Anglo-Saxon words, don't they?

How extraordinarily strange.

Now that I think about it, though, both times I've been to see my Field Town gynecologist, I've ended up discussing Middle English with him while I was on the table.

Huh.

Not only is that a strange request from strange circumstances, it's also an annoying request, imho. I *hate* it when other professionals want you to give some of your time to them for private tutoring, even if they are willing to pay. You should say to said gyn: I will tutor you in Anglo-Saxon if you teach me how to give a gynecological exam.

Hmph.

I rather like the idea of a gyn who wants to learn Anglo-Saxon, though I might not want to teach hyr. Obviously a chatty gyn!

Figure out what gyns charge in your community and charge at least that. (My last statement showed like $250 for the basic annual "I want birth control" 20 minutes. That's 750 an hour. I'd tutor for that!)
