Pride goeth before the stomach flu

So, after bragging about my hobbity eating schedule, I was waylaid by a horrible stomach flu on Saturday night.

Oh. My. God.

I have never been that sick. I was so weak on Sunday that TD literally had to help me walk from the bedroom into the living room and back. Not a pretty sight. Even yesterday, when he went back to Dutchmanlandia, I couldn't do much other than sit on the couch all day.

Finally today is better - no queasiness or other untoward physical symptoms; I slept well last night and I can actually get some work done. This is my spring break and I'm foregoing a trip to see TD so that I can WORK ON MY BOOK MANUSCRIPT AND GET THOSE REVISIONS DONE!!!!

In the midst of all this I worried about how this bug might effect the nascent manatee, but TD looked it up and apparently it doesn't hurt a baby b/c it's confined only to my digestive tract. Lovely.

Oh, but in cool news, we heard the heartbeat on Friday! It was very strong (she said) and it was a good sign to hear it so strong so early in the pregnancy! It sounded like a little propeller.

So, now it's a manatee in a "chopper."

I'm a lurker, but I had to come out of hiding to tell you how excited I am about your pregnancy. I'm also a medievalist, and I just had my second child. I've felt kind of lonely as a parenting academic, so your blogging about your desire for children and now your pregnancy is really encouraging to me. Thank you.

Hi Gertrude, thanks for reading and thanks for your comment! Not many of my close cohort have or want children as well, so I'll be interested to see how I fit in as the only parent on the tenure track. It's been a cool ride so far - thanks for chiming in and welcome!

Oh no! This flu seems to be going around. All week there have been folks posting about some nasty gastro bug (and it's all over the country). Hope you are doing much better and glad to hear the Manatee has a chopper :)

Oh maybe Absurdist Tot had the stomach flu! (Maybe not because it wasn't really that bad though. Probably just some bad teething, though we were worried about parasites -- the whole megillah.)

I was also incredibly ill early in my pregnancy, and I'm sure MM is fine.

Gertrude, I too have felt very lonely as a parenting academic. It's so weird because I know so many people across the country with young children and some departments seem to have so many people with young children in them -- and then there's mine. Just wanted to say -- I hear you.
