...on table linens today. I agonized over this, but then decided to jump in and do it. There are few things that give me more domestic guilty pleasure than table linens and serving pieces. These are from Wiliams-Sonoma and some of my birthday money (thanks Medieval Mom) paid for...most of it. I got the longer table cloth and two sets of napkins because I want to be able to have more than 2 people over for a more formal dinner.
What I humbly request from the Blogosphere is 1) absolution for indulging my (as it turns out, expensive) fetish, and 2) tell me if you think they're pretty.
Here's a pic...
While I'm in the confessional mood, I also recently bought 6 of these chargers:
These were not as expensive, but they're still lovely.
Tell me, what guilty, pretty fetishes do you all have? How often do you indulge? I don't count shoes and handbags per se, especially if you have lots of different ones for different occasions. But, does anyone have a fetish for, say, red stilettos (that's a shout out to you, Flavia!)? I, for example, also have 3 different green purses. And I'd own 3 more if I could.

Total absolution from chez Belle. They are gorgeous. I used to have a bed linens fetish - until I realized I had a dozen sets. Then I went overboard on towels (which I still love/adore/lust after). I ran out of storage space.
Now? Books (always and forever) and jewelry findings. Bits and pieces. Indulge...? Frequently, but they are cheaper than linens.
Absolutely stunning! How could you NOT such a pretty set of linens? Such a lovely color! I say: Bravo!
My fetish? fitted jackets with perfect, narrow sleeves. This is the one category of item that I will spend disproportionate and unreasonable sums of money to acquire.
Hey now belle, no absolution without a suitable penance! I am sure I could come up with something great from an early medieval Irish penitential. . .
Joy! Thanks for the absolution and commiseration, guys! And Profane, how's this for penance? I will make everyone dinner! And it will be consumed on my new linens!!! I can handle that kind o' penance...
And Sq, I totally thought of you when I first saw these because the linens remind me of a sari - SO beautiful...
And Belle, I'm with ya on the bed linens....
I have never been able to afford this stuff, so I don't know what my consumer fetish is. I suspect it would be good bedding...
No, wait: good kitchen basics: anodized steel pots & pans, and really nice knives. I've managed to pick up some of the former (for a song, at a garage sale where someone didn't know what they were doing), and am lusting after the latter.
The linens are beautiful! Great purchase. My problem is not a fetish for nice things. It's the tendency to buy lots of frumpy stuff (for the house and for myself) because it's cheap and comfortable.
I'm sure I could benefit from upping the ante on my commitment to the aesthetics of my life. But it's so 'spensive. Plus, I have two toddlers who would spill lots of juice on such lovely linens.
Indeed, the penance of dinner parties would certainly be preferable to, say, standing up to your neck in cold water for a day. Not to mention far tastier.
Agreed: gorgeous!
I too love linens, but my real (and really pointless) obsession, others than shoes and handbags (and I have many, many handbags!) is dishes and glassware. I have tons of vintage champange flutes, cordial glasses, sugar bowls, etc. And, uh. . . I don't really cook. And I live by myself.
So you're absolved by Flavia!
Totally love the linens.
I'm trying to control my fetishes -- it helps that we don't have too much storage in our new house :)
But I keep buying handbags - big, small, medium, black, blue, leather, microfiber -- hoping that some day I find the perfect bag. Until then? I keep hoping.
But when in doubt, I'll buy a pair of earrings.
That's a beautiful blue!
My fetish is books, mostly. And my bike...
Pretty! I approve and I await the receipt of the Dinner Invitations of Absolution!
My great weakness is the Le Creuset pot/pan line. I only have one piece right now, but I can while away a lot of time on the internet or a catalog drooling over them. Mmm!
I have decided that pretty shoes are more for looking at than wearing snd so don't buy so many as I have in past times.
Ooo! Me, too, Sis! We just got a Le Creuset tea kettle in lemongrass - that leafy green color....love...love...
